Solution Focused hypnotherapy is an evidence-based approach, which can help alleviate a wide range of issues. It is a combination of talking therapy (psychotherapy) and hypnosis, or trance.
The talking part of a session focuses on how you would like to change and move forward with your life – what you want, rather than what you don’t want. It’s future-focused and so doesn’t rake over painful memories of the past. We discuss your specific goals and how you can take small, achievable steps towards achieving them. Instead of talking about your problems, we talk about solutions that will work for you.
The hypnosis part of the session uses our mind’s natural ability to go into trance. It may surprise you to know that we go into a trance state frequently throughout the day – if you’ve had that experience of temporarily drifting off while watching tv or driving, that’s because you’ve been in a momentary trance. During hypnosis you remain in control, whilst your unconscious mind becomes more open to beneficial suggestions. People normally find it pleasant, relaxing and helpful in making decisions to change unwanted patterns of behaviour. It is often a time when we have insights or those 'light bulb' moments.
